Thermoforming for
global product leaders

Why thermoforming

Heated sheet. Precise part.

Thermoforming plastic sheet is simple in principle: heat it until pliable, then form it over a mold with vacuum or pressure. For large parts and complex shapes, it delivers the finished quality you need — at a fraction of the tooling cost of injection molding, and far faster to first parts.

Alcami is a contract manufacturer for plastic thermoforming in Thailand — forming for demanding brands since 2001, extruding our own sheet, cutting our own molds and finishing in-house or in cleanroom, all under one roof.

Why it wins

Excellent for mass production

A single mold turns out large numbers of identical parts. The mold is the main upfront cost — after that, your cost per part is very low.

Low scrap rates

Forming leaves very little post-production scrap — sheet offcuts can typically be reground and recycled into future runs, in line with our ISO 14001 commitment.

Detailed design capabilities

Fine detail imprints cleanly, and the process leaves real design freedom — why thermoforming suits such a wide variety of parts and products.

Thermoforming vs. injection molding

Choose the right process — honestly.

Most plastic thermoforming manufacturers only form. We run both thermoforming and injection molding in-house. Tell us your part and volume, and we will point you to the process that actually fits — not the one that is easiest to sell.

Thermoforming

Choose thermoforming when…

Larger, lighter parts — fast and affordable to tool.

  • Parts are large or deep — trays, housings, panels, covers
  • The part is sheet-based — uniform walls, no ribs or bosses
  • You need tooling quickly and affordably
  • The design may still change between runs
  • You want light, durable parts in PET, PP, ABS or PVC
Injection molding

Choose injection molding when…

Small, intricate parts — at very high volume.

  • Parts are small and highly detailed
  • Volumes are very high and stable
  • Tight, repeatable tolerances are critical
  • Geometry needs ribs, bosses or molded-in threads
  • Per-part cost matters more than tooling cost

Not sure which way to go? We do both — send your part and we will tell you which is right for you.

Share a drawing, a sample or just the idea. We will tell you honestly whether thermoforming is the right call.

02

CAD & DFM review

Our engineers review your CAD model — or design one for you — check draft angles, wall thickness and undercuts, then come back with a clear quotation.

03

Tooling & sheet

Molds machined and sheet extruded in-house — tight tolerances, fast iterations, one accountable timeline.

04

Form, finish & deliver

Vacuum or pressure forming, then trimming, cleanroom finishing, QC, warehousing and transport.

Inside one forming cycle

  1. 01Heat

The plastic sheet is heated until pliable and moved into position over the mold.

  2. 02Form

Vacuum or pressure stretches the heated sheet tight against the mold.

  3. 03Cool & eject

The part cools and holds its shape; demolding air releases it from the mold.

  4. 04Trim

Formed parts are trimmed and separated from the sheet, ready for finishing.

FAQ

Plastic thermoforming, answered.

Still have a question about your part or project? Ask our team →

What is plastic thermoforming?

Thermoforming heats a plastic sheet until it is pliable, then forms it over a mold using vacuum or pressure. It is ideal for large parts and complex shapes — with far lower tooling cost than injection molding, and faster to first parts.

Thermoforming or injection molding — which is right for my part?

As a rule of thumb, thermoforming wins for larger parts and faster, cheaper tooling; injection molding wins for small, high-precision parts at very high volumes. We run both in-house, so we recommend the process that genuinely fits your part and volume — not just the one we would like to sell.

Which forming methods and materials do you offer?

We offer vacuum forming and pressure forming, in materials including PET/APET, PS/HIPS, PP, HDPE, ABS, PVC and polycarbonate — including food-contact, medical-grade and sustainable bio-based or recycled materials.

Do you make your own sheet and molds?

Yes. We extrude our own plastic sheet and fabricate molds in-house with CNC machining, which means tighter tolerances, faster iterations and one accountable partner from sheet to finished part.

Can you thermoform in a cleanroom for medical or electronics parts?

Yes. We run onsite cleanroom manufacturing — NEBB certified and rated up to Class 100,000 — for medical, laboratory and electronics parts that require it, including device trays, housings and sterile-ready packaging.

What is your minimum order quantity (MOQ)?

MOQs are variable by the scope and complexity of the parts you need manufactured — volumes for food packaging run far higher than for precision industrial parts. Share your part and target volume and we will quote accordingly.

Which certifications do you hold?

We are certified to ISO 9001 (quality), ISO 14001 (environment) and ISO 22000 (food safety), and our cleanroom manufacturing is NEBB certified. We share current certificates for your supplier qualification file on request.

How fast will I get a quote?

We reply to quote requests within 1 business day — usually with clarifying questions or a budgetary quotation.
